Trends in Quantum Computing – May 16, 2024

Quantum computing has attracted the attention of, and major development investments, from the world’s most prominent technology and non-tech companies. IBM, Microsoft, Google and others have invested billions of dollars to date while companies like Volkswagen, Airbus, Raytheon, and others have made massive investments as well.

But what is the current state of quantum computing development? How is it being used now and when will it become available on a more mainstream basis? What’s the prediction for quantum computing development and advancement in the next 5 years? In the next 10 years? Learn the answers to these questions and others as we host Jesse Berezovsky, Associate Professor of Physics at Case Western Reserve University.

About Our Speaker
Berezovsky joined Case in 2010 as a Physics professor after completing postdoc work at Harvard University. His research at Case focuses on two branches:
1) New materials and devices for quantum technology leveraging magnetic systems and spins;
2) Theory and applications of physics-based music theory.

In the former area, his lab studies how to use single electron spins either as quantum sensors for near-term application, or as qubits for longer-term quantum computing applications. In the latter area, Berezovsky has developed a statistical mechanics approach to music theory that aims to understand the ordered structures of music analogy to ordered phases of matter.
